Imagine visiting East Berlin during the Cold War. A place where western music was smuggled into underground clubs, people purposely gave their children “western names” as a way to rebel and churches were turned into museums, as the communist regime did not want values promoted other than its own. Neighbors would turn on neighbors and those who tried to escape the confines of the Berlin Wall risked being met with a terrible fate. The falling of the wall in 1989 then gave people a voice, as Germany became reunified in a celebration heard around the world.
